  1. "Living on a Prayer" is one of my favourite Jon Bon Jovi songs although I haven't read the namesake novel by Shiela Quigley. Lots of familiar authors in your Tub 7, Col. But unfortunately, as with your previous six tubs, I don't think I have read any of them. Given their size, some of these books look intimidating.

    1. I think all of Sheila Quigley's books incorporate song titles - RUN FOR HOME, BAD MOON RISING and a fair few others. I haven't read her yet though my wife has enjoyed 3 or 4.

We used to love BON JOVI back in the day. This song is a family favourite as one of my daughters used to sing LIVING ON THE RAILWAY - you know how children (and adults) mishear lyrics. If ever it comes on the radio - we all sing LIVING ON THE RAILWAY to tease her!

McDermid, John Harvey and Kevin Sampson seem to be the fattest!

I wondered whether you had heard of DAN J MARLOWE and his "OPERATION" series from the 60's and 70's.

    2. Col, I have got a couple of Dan Marlowe paperbacks one of which is "The Vengeance Man" that I haven't read yet, which is surprising as it is quite a slim book. I know he was a noted crime fiction writer. What came as an even bigger surprise to me was that he was a contributor to the Mack Bolan: The Executioner and other similar series like Phoenix Force and Able Team, created by Don Pendleton. I believe, Marlowe and other authors wrote these novels under the common pen name of Gar Wilson. Of course, I don't know how many of these Marlowe wrote. I have many of them.

    3. I didn't know he had contributed to the Mack Bolan books. I expect I will find a couple more as I log them. I think the Operation series is quite interesting because he initially killed off the main man DRAKE in either the first or second book but was persuaded to continue with him, so had to kind of resurrect him. I'm not sure if the first book was re-issued with a re-written ending. I might be misremembering.

  2. Col - You've got some interesting finds there. Not sure, I must say, about the sheep ;-), but still, happy to see you've got some Hillermans. I like his work very, very much. And I hope you'll like the McDermid. Also interesting to see your non-crime fiction books. I honestly wish I had time for more reading outside the genre.

    1. I haven't read too much from Val McDermid, something I should address in future years. And I have ignored my stash of Hillerman's for too long.

I do like going outside the genre both fiction and non-fiction wise as and when I get a bit jaded reading crime.

  3. You have quite a lot of Bill James books. The next one of his I have to read is Halo Parade. You can tell I am not far along. Lots of good authors in there. I have not read any Hillerman, although I have good intentions.

    1. I will be finding a few more Bill James books as I go. I think he is up to 30 in the series and still going strong. He's outlasted my wallet anyway. Hillerman I want to read or in the cases of some of the early ones re-read, but I'll need to do it in order. I know exactly what you mean about good intentions though - whether I read him next year we'll have to wait and see!

  4. I read a couple of Kevin Sampsons, just because they dealt with my hometown and I knew the streets and pubs and clubs his characters visited. Apart from that this is pretty much unknown territory for me. Do you put them back in the tub when you've logged them? Presumably you give the tub a number so you can cross-reference?
(I have librarian instincts in there somewhere, I am fascinated by this.)

    1. I read and loved AWAYDAYS - a few years ago - Tranmere Rovers and football hooligans, but a bit deeper and also STARS ARE STARS or something like that - less enjoyable. He is now writing a police procedural series which has received some decent reviews.

All 50 go back in the tub when photographed - along with a sticky label designating the tub number. The hard work starts after that! Manually recording them on a sheet of A4, then transferring onto the laptop after. Each tub has its own spreadsheet, with a master collating the individual weeks. I can print off the weekly list of books at work and drop a list into the tub afterwards, as well as saving a list for a foolscap file.
It's quite an effort digging on the net afterwards for the details on the books, to back-fill the post on the blog and the spreadsheet, but hopefully I will stay the pace!
